OK, here we go! This is our time.
If you haven't heard, there are some things going on. A lot of times we say don't watch the news, but if you ignore the news you could end up in a huge crowd....and you don't want to do that. So, pay attention to the news but don't be obsessed by it.
In an Inman article this morning by Gary Keller he wrote, "Don't let how you feel about this situation dictate what you do about it."
Think about that statement. We all have anxiety about what's going on in our world, but believe it or not, we have control. We control what we do about it.
Will our real estate market slow down for a while? Probably. Will the number of people you can call or reach out to decrease? NO! Do you have something to talk about? YES!
Things are moving very rapidly. Where we were just two days ago is starkly different than where we are today. And when this is all behind us, who is going to be the best positioned to take advantage of the RELIEF? It's your decision.
Quick story. Before 2006 (this is when our beach prices started stalling and falling in the Great Recession), the major real estate agents in the condominium world were killing it. Jeff McClaurin and I could sit down today and remember many agents that were making a ton. And where are they today? There aren't many left. What happened? They didn't shift with the market. All of a sudden, the foreclosure agents grabbed market share and the heavy hitters stopped marketing themselves because business was dried up. When the recovery started in 2011, guess who became the new king of market share? It was a different group of agents that had grasped technology, regular emails and calls even when transactions were few, and they earned the market share and continue to do well today.
So here is the plan. We are not going to let how we feel about this situation dictate what we do about it. We have a great opportunity today, maybe the best opportunity we have ever had. While others worry and fret, we will engage even more than we ever have. When we get to the other side of this, be it May, June, October . . . who knows . . . we will be so positioned to benefit from the pent up demand. But it means we have to do the work now! Assess your marketing, assess your calls and your time blocks. Remain engaged and be the go-to rock for your worried customers and clients.
