Walk into any home decor store and you will quickly see just how many options you have for holiday decorating. Looking at the price tags of those options may have you walking right out of the store, though.
Sometimes it can feel as though you're having to choose between buying Thanksgiving decorations or the food for the feast, but that doesn't have to be the case. As we head into the 2021 holiday season and you begin planning your decorations -- because they'll be here before we know it -- check out the holiday tips below to deck your halls on a budget.
You don't need to buy one of everything in the store to make a statement. Choose a color scheme. It will help you narrow your options. Whether you choose traditional burnt orange for fall and red and green for Christmas or a modern twist on the classics, you will find pieces that work. From there, pick options that will make an impact. Maybe that's making sure your entry way has a place to drop off letters to Santa. Or perhaps it's making sure your mantle has enough Thanksgiving spirit for the entire room. A few key pieces with punches of color make an impact that works for your pocketbook.
Pine cones are your friend this time of year. They work just as well for Christmas décor as they did for fall. Reuse what you had or grab some from the backyard, cleaning them before placing in your home of course. They will work with almost any decorating scheme and can be spread throughout your home to add a festive touch at no cost other than the time it takes you to collect them. You can also use pine boughs or the excess boughs off your Christmas tree, along with the pine cones and some cinnamon sticks from the kitchen, to create mantle or table décor that is as inexpensive as it is timeless.
Even if you don't recognize it, your home is most likely already full of ideal decorations – or will be soon enough. Display all the Christmas cards you receive by hanging them on the wall in the shape of a Christmas tree using removable mounting tape, or hang them around the kitchen island for an additional pop of Christmas color that features those you hold near and dear. Those Christmas sweaters that no longer fit the kids can be cut and glued to cardboard cut in the shape of Christmas trees, snowmen or even letters to add some textured fun to your mantle. Need a place to hide gifts from the kids? Try hiding them in plain sight by wrapping them and placing them on bookcases or as the centerpiece for your coffee table in the living room. At the very least, you can use gifts for those who won't peek as decorations. And don't forget that the ornaments you use on your Christmas tree already can also be stacked and hung throughout your home for pops of Christmas fun that won't break the bank.
Happy Decorating!
