REALTORS® are trusted advisors for their clients. They trust you as their REALTOR® to guide them through the real estate buying or selling process and protect them from potential issues, including those that can be caused by cyber criminals.

While it's important to make cybersecurity a priority for your business any time, now it's particularly import as the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 has caused a spike in scams as the video above from CBS News highlights.

Remember to never share personally identifying information (PII), including social security numbers, drivers license number, bank account numbers, etc., without verifying the source of the request and using an email encryption software to send. For example, Bellator Real Estate & Development agents use Zix® to encrypt sensitive emails. This also applies to wire transfer instructions or any other client information that could be detrimental if it fell into the wrong hands.

Tech site Wired highlights the need to stay vigilant: "Rapid changes to daily life during the pandemic have also changed how people interact with internet-connected technologies. Without time to develop tailored defenses, that also means new exposures and risks."
